You can cook this dish by using fresh prawns from the leading shrimp and prawn exporters.
Let’s explore the ingredients needed to prepare Prawn Gassi for three to four people –
Ingredients required for Marination:
1 tbsp salt
1 tbsp turmeric powder
½ tbsp lime juice
Ingredients for paste preparation:
1 tbsp oil
½ cup grated fresh coconut
A pinch of fenugreek seed
4-5 dry red kashmiri chillies or bedgi/byadagi chillies
1 onion chopped coarsely
3-4 garlic cloves
1 tbsp coriander seed
1 tsp cumin seed
1 tsp peppercorn
1 small ball of tamarind
Ingredients for cooking the curry:
1 tbsp oil + ½ tbsp oil (to pour in the curry)
250 gms prawns (cleaned and deveined)
1 medium-sized tomato & a few curry leaves (optional)
½ inch ginger (julienne technique)
1-2 green chillies cut from the centre
1 onion chopped finely
1 tsp red chilli powder
Salt according to taste
Water as needed
Cooking procedure –
Perform prawn marination with the help of lime juice, turmeric and salt, and put aside for 15-20 minutes.
Then, use a pan; once heated, pour oil. Saute all the ingredients (to carry out the process of paste preparation) for 3-4 mins on low heat.
Grinding all the ingredients with a little water will form a smooth paste.
After that, you need to pour oil into a wide-bottomed saucepan. Once it is heated, add onion, ginger, curry leaves and green chillies.
Now, add red chilli powder.
Pour the grounded paste and simmer until it begins to bubble and thicken.
Now, it’s time to add water to ensure consistency.
You can now add the marinated prawns.
Simmer again until the curry starts bubbling.
Finally, you have to add salt and also pour oil.
Make sure your gas is turned/shut off, and then serve steaming hot Prawn Gassi with rice or Neer Dosa. Enjoy your meal!
Lastly, your dish will taste extremely delicious only if you get high-quality and fresh prawns from the leading shrimp and prawn exporters.
