Taste The Flavour of Delicious Prawn Chukka Masala

Chukka, a dry, curry originates in the Southern region of India. The crucial ingredient that stands out in the flavor of any authentic chukka recipe is fresh curry leaves. It tastes and smells like the essence of curry.

However, to taste one of the best savories, you need to use large-sized prawns delivered by Prawn exporters.

Ingredients

For Grinding:

  • Coconut – ½ cup
  • Dry Red Chillies – 5
  • Garlic – 4 to 5
  • Curry Leaves – 1 sprig
  • Fennel seeds / Sombu – 2 tsp

For Masala:

  • Coconut Oil – 1tbsp
  • Curry Leaves a sprig
  • Onion – 1 sliced thinly
  • Turmeric Powder – ½ tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Prawns – 500 grams cleaned
  • Black pepper powder – 2 tsp
  • Garam masala powder – 1 tsp

Preparation

Before you begin, make sure to devein and shell prawns bought from the seafood exporters. The tail can be left on. You can marinate them for 15 – 30 minutes.

Step 1 

First, grind the ingredients in a blender for the masala to a paste. It can be a little coarse as well.

Step 2

Next, heat oil in a Kadhai. Add in some curry leaves and onions and sauté them well together for 1 to 2 mins until they turn glossy.

Step 3

Add in the marinated seafood, turmeric powder, and salt. Mix everything pretty well.

Step 4

Add in some masala and mix well.

Step 5

Now cook it covered for 5 to 8 minutes until the prawns become dry.

Step 6

Now, after opening the lid, cook for another 2 mins.

Step 7

Next, when the oil gets separated, add some pepper and garam masala powder and stir until they mix well.

Step 8

Serve the dish preferably with steamed rice.
